Herbert Grönemeyer to Head the Jury of the 6th International Film Music Competition
The musical evening takes place for the first time at the Tonhalle Maag

Taking place within the framework of the 13th Zurich Film Festival this coming autumn, the 6th International Film Music Competition follows on from last year’s hugely successful event, which attracted entrants from 43 countries and a highly enthusiastic audience. The celebrity jury will be presided over by German singer and actor Herbert Grönemeyer. The musical evening and the award ceremony will take place for the first time this year at the new and distinctly urban Tonhalle Maag on October 5.

This year’s International Film Music Competition jury will be presided over by German musician, singer and actor Herbert Grönemeyer. The jury welcomes back German conductor Frank Strobel, whose task will also be to conduct the epic 100-part Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich during this year’s musical event. The jury further comprises British film music composer, producer and musician Anne Dudley, Zurich-born film composer and musician Fabian Römer and the Turkish filmmaker Erhan Yürük, whose short film TAMAH has been chosen to form the basis of the competition’s most recent edition.

List of Jury Members:

  • Herbert Grönemeyer (singer, actor / Germany / Jury President)
  • Frank Strobel (conductor, musician / Germany)
  • Anne Dudley (composer, musician / Great Britain)
  • Fabian Römer (film composer, musician / Switzerland)
  • Erhan Yürük (director of the short film TAMAH / Turkey)

This international expert jury will choose five finalists from the short film scores received. These five nominated compositions will be world-premiered in front of a live audience by the world-renowned Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich at the Tonhalle Maag on October 5. The jury will choose the winner of the award for ‘Best International Film Music 2017’. The award ceremony will be followed by a large-scale film music concert.

The five competition nominees will be announced in mid-June.

The ZFF and the Tonhalle-Orchestra Zurich collaborate with the Forum Filmmusik to present the International Film Music Competition.
